Family of millionaire businessman Lloyd Morrison say he is fighting hard while receiving cancer treatment in Seattle.
The Infratil founder, who is worth $100 million according to the NBR rich list, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009.
His uncle, John Morrison, said: "He's fighting hard and it's not easy, but he's a battler and we're hoping and praying that he will get through this. He certainly is doing his best."
Morrison was last month named with six other Wellington business people, known as the Welnix Ltd consortium, as the new holders of the Phoenix Football Club licence after former owner Terry Serepisos was forced to give up control.
The consortium was headed by Kiwibank chairman Rob Morrison.
