Family safe after getting lost on tramp

A family of six has walked out of the Hunua Ranges south of Auckland safe and well after getting lost last night.

Police were told the family was lost about 6.30pm.

A search and rescue party was deployed at 8pm and made contact with family members an hour later.

The searchers found the family shortly before 11pm and walked them out just after midnight.
