Messages from Herald readers to their descendants are to be placed in a "time vault" to be opened in 100 years.
St Matthew-in-the-City, the inner-city Anglican church, has agreed to place the pages containing the messages in a sealed recess. The church already contains a number of "time capsules" placed by members of the public.
The Herald published on New Year's Day will contain a special section of messages, contributed by readers, to record the names of family members, their thoughts for today and their aspirations for future generations.
Reach through Time will be a classified advertising section and the Herald has set special rates, beginning at $20 plus GST for a five-line message, to give as many as possible an opportunity to be included.
Messages can be placed by telephoning (09) 308-0001.
