A Wellington couple who have been scrimping and saving for years for the deposit on a house can now got out and buy one outright after winning the first division Lotto prize.
The couple with two children, from Titahi Bay in Porirua, just north of Wellington ,won $1,061,068 on Saturday night.
The winners, who wished to remain anonymous, had been working more than 100 hours a week between to save for their first house.
"It has always been our dream to have our own place - but it has been really hard to save for a deposit," the husband said.
"So when I was reading the paper and realised that my numbers matched Lotto's winning numbers I asked my wife 'do you want to buy a house this week'?
"She said you've got to be kidding me!"
The couple said they would be going to open homes this week.
"We're looking forward to not paying rent anymore," they said.
However, the couple don't plan to stop working - "we might just cut down on our hours though", the wife said.
The winning ticket was purchased at New World Porirua in Wellington.
Powerball has jackpotted again this week, and will be worth an estimated $10 million in next Saturday's draw.
Strike Four was also not struck and jackpots to an estimated $800,000 next week.
