A Christchurch family is back home following an attack early today in which a toxic substance was thrown through the window of their house.
The six occupants of the house, four adults and two children, were treated in hospital for breathing problems and irritation to the eyes and ears after the incident on Pages Rd about 1.30am, Senior Sergeant Murray Hurst said.
Two police officers who attended the scene had to be decontaminated.
Police would not say whether they knew what the substance was.
Police finished a scene examination at the house this afternoon and the family had returned.
Several items had been sent away for forensic analysis, and anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in the area about the time of the attack was asked to contact police.
