KEY POINTS:
Grieving Panmure mother Louanna Graydon says the mother of her son's killer is lucky.
"She is lucky her boy will do a bit of time, she will see him again but I will never see my son again - it's not fair."
But, in order for those responsible for Daryl's Graydon's death to do their time, someone needs to take responsibility and dob the "gutless cowards" in to the police.
It has been a week since the 24-year-old furniture maker was stabbed to death in Howick by two young men, believed to have South African accents. Detective Senior Sergeant Pete Jones said police were confident of an arrest but needed the public's help. He appealed for anyone with information to call the confidential helpline.
Police yesterday released an identikit sketch of one of the suspects. He is described as pale skinned with freckles, sandy blond hair, medium build and about 1.8m tall. He wore a horizontally striped sweatshirt.
The second suspect, whose identikit sketch was released earlier this week, was described as being olive-skinned or part-Maori with dark, spiky hair. He wore an electric blue shirt over a white T shirt.
Both men are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s and Mr Graydon's distraught family appealed to them to hand themselves in.
Daryl's uncle, Allan Nicol, said the family have been going through a range of emotions from "out and out grief" to "numbness, anger and rage".
Daryl's aunt, Debbie Nicol, said parents know their children and what clothes they wear so the parents of the suspects would have recognised the descriptions of the two young men. They would also know that three steak knives, yesterday recovered near the scene of the stabbing, were missing.
"Concealing them, sheltering them doesn't make it right," said Mrs Nicol.
