Part of Lambton Quay - one of Wellington's busiest streets - has been cordoned off after glass began falling from the 20th storey of a high-rise building.
Emergency services were called to 280 Lambton Quay about 2pm after reports of falling glass.
The glass was believed to have come from a window dislodged in the wind, central fire communications spokesman David Meikle said.
Police cordoned off the area near Panama St and firefighters were working with contractors to secure the window, he said.
There were no reported injuries.
