A fake bomb found at a Wellington School sparked a police callout this afternoon.
Senior Sergeant Darren Russell said police were called to Hutt Valley High School after a medicine bottle containing wires and lights was found in the school gym at about 1.30pm.
He said students and staff were evacuated and police closed surrounding roads.
"Police are speaking with a student who was responsible for the device and were confident it was not explosive," Mr Russell said.
He said students and staff have been let back into the school and the the student has been referred to Youth Aid.
