Food: This October, you can vote for your favourite Fairtrade product at fairtradeawards.org.nz and you could win 1 of 15 prize packs! Voting closes October 13.
You're voting to give farmers and their communities in developing countries a fair go, but there's more to Fairtrade than just a fair wage.
When you buy Fairtrade Certified products, you're voting for children to be in school, for women to receive equal pay, and for community projects like healthcare. The National Confederation of Dominican Cocoa Producers (CONACADO) is an association of 10,000 cocoa farmers. They've used the Fairtrade Premium towards new fermentation and drying centres, trucks to transport the beans, repaired roads, and storage warehouses.
All this leads to increased productivity and higher quality beans. The Fairtrade Premium also helps farmers like Nicolas del Rosario (pictured), study part-time at University.
