The Board of Trustees of Fairfield College in Hamilton has resigned after students protested against the school's leadership.
Around 200 students staged a mass walkout yesterday.
Board deputy chairman Rodney Hartles says they have been trying to raise student achievement, but the response has not been good.
"We've got to a position as a board that we need to look at ourselves and say what's best for this school to move forward," Mr Hartles said.
Mr Hartles says Julie Small will remain in her position as principal.
