A man who allegedly left a broken knife embedded in another man's face has appeared in court in Auckland.
Vance Paraki Tuheke, 31, appeared in North Shore District Court today charged with attempted murder.
Tuheke entered no plea and was remanded in custody to reappear on July 28, Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby of North Shore police said.
Two women, aged 41 and 22, were also due to appear on charges related to events following the alleged stabbing.
Tuheke was arrested on Saturday at a house in Ruawai, between Auckland and Dargaville.
The arrest was made a day after an attack in Albany, on Auckland's North Shore, which left a 36-year-old man with a knife blade in his face from just below his left eye through his nasal cavity and across to the other side of his face.
Surgeons removed the blade during a delicate operation at Auckland Hospital on Friday.
The victim was still in hospital but was expected to make a full recovery , Mr Libby said.
