KEY POINTS:
A Christchurch couple were shocked and angered when they received a Fly Buys loyalty programme letter and card addressed to U R F...ing Whore.
Lisa Raxworthy, of Redwood suburb, said she had nightmares wondering who might have sent the card two weeks ago, accompanied by a letter that began: "Dear Ms F...ing Whore, Congratulations and welcome to Fly Buys."
Fly Buys said the card was generated by someone accessing its registration system through the internet, not anyone in the company, and an investigation was under way.
Mrs Raxworthy and her husband featured on TVNZ's Fair Go programme last night and said Fly Buys hadn't acknowledged their complaints until the programme became involved.
"They've sent a big bunch of flowers now, but they could have nipped it in the bud," Mrs Raxworthy told The Press newspaper.
Mr Raxworthy said he saw red after the couple's 14-year-old daughter collected the envelope from the family's letter box and was angry the card managed to get through the Fly Buys system.
Fly Buys general manager Peter Monk, who refused to appear on Fair Go last night, said the company was hunting for the culprit and was receiving "strong co-operation" from internet service providers.
Mr Monk said Fly Buys gained 1500 members every week and had issued "half a million cards in the past three years".
