MetService is warning of extreme weather putting a wet and windy dampener on many parts of New Zealand for the rest of the holiday weekend.
A front over the Tasman Sea is moving across the South Island today and forecast to stall over the North Island tomorrow.
MetService forecasts heavy rain for the rest of the day in the Otago and South Canterbury headwaters, and the western Nelson Ranges.
Tomorrow that rain moves to the North Island, from Taranaki to Tongariro, Waikato and the eastern ranges in the Bay Of Plenty.
There'll also be gales in Canterbury, Marlborough and the Sounds this afternoon, followed by severe gales in Wellington and Wairarapa.
