KEY POINTS:
Transit is building an extra northbound lane on Auckland's Northern Motorway between Northcote Rd and the underpass at Sunnynook.
It will be built using part of the existing median strip.
The $9.5 million project will also see the Wairau Rd and Tristram Avenue overpasses widened.
Construction is due to start later this month and is expected to be completed late next year.
