KEY POINTS:
A specialist Export Facilitator will soon be appointed to help Northland businesses develop their ability and capacity to export, New Zealand First leader Winston Peters said today.
He said the new position was one of the initiatives to emerge from the Northland Export Year 2007 Regional Plan.
Export Year 2007 was developed by NZ First, the Government and the private sector.
Mr Peters said the new facilitator would provide education and support to existing Northland exporters and to other companies wanting to grow their businesses by operating in offshore markets.
"Other Export Year events in the region include introductory enterprise training courses in Whangarei and Kerikeri for first-time exporters and ongoing targeted training programmes in Whangarei, Kaipara, Kerikeri and Kaitaia for current exporters," he said.
"A mentoring programme is also underway to team current exporters with up-and-coming exporters."
Mr Peters did not say who would be appointed as the new facilitator.
