The discovery "of what appears to be explosives'' has caused the closure of a popular Dunedin scenic drive.
Contractors discovered the items on John Wilson Ocean Dr, and notified police.
"They found what appears to be some explosives,'' acting Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of the Southern District command centre, said.
That prompted the closure of the road to pedestrians and vehicles and the partial closure of several holes at the Chisholm Park Golf Club.
"At this stage we are just trying to establish what the items are and talk to the contractors before establishing what the items are."
