Save An experienced climber who fell about 8m off a Taupo cliff had to be hoisted from steep terrain by rescuers.
The 35-year-old Wellington man was climbing with a group of friends at Whanganui Bay, on Lake Taupo's western shore, when he fell yesterday afternoon.
Taupo's Youthtown Rescue Helicopter was called
after the man's friends alerted police.
Rescuers hoisted the man off the rocks to a nearby beach.
He was taken to Waikato Hospital with back injuries.
