KEY POINTS:
A 29-year-old Napier man could be thousands of dollars out of pocket after writing off a new car during a test drive.
The man took the $22,000 Holden Clubsport for a spin after spotting it at a Napier showroom last week. But it ended when he slammed the car sideways into a power pole, although he continued to drive the badly damaged vehicle for another kilometre.
He is now facing charges and possibly claims for the vehicle's insurance excess of $2000 - and the cost of the pole.
