Police continued their "step-by-step" scene examination yesterday of the house where Foxton woman Winsome Jimson-Newland was found dead last Thursday.
Detective Dennis O'Rourke of Palmerston North said police had nearly finished an exhaustive scene examination.
"We thought we might have it finished yesterday [Sunday]. It's just one of things we have to take step by step - we can't rush it," he said.
The body of Mrs Jimson-Newland, 74, was discovered in her Whittaker St home last Thursday when a man delivering pamphlets noticed her over-flowing letterbox.
An initial autopsy revealed she had been dead for four days but did not explain the cause of death.
Mr O'Rourke said the scene examination had provided some answers, but he would not go into detail. "It has given us answers to a couple of the issues that were of concern to us early on."
Mr O'Rourke said police were talking to neighbours and Mrs Jimson-Newland's family members to find out when she was last seen alive.
