"We had a practice exam so I worked with that and it [yesterday's exam] ended up being pretty much the same as that."
Tasmyn said her class had studied high-profile bullying cases which had appeared in the media and had to answer questions in the exam that related to those cases.
She was able to do that pretty quickly and managed to leave the three-hour exam in two hours, as did most of her classmates.
With the morning's exam out the way, the teenager was heading home for an afternoon of more study, this time focusing on maths, which she will sit on Monday.
Other exams held yesterday included Level 1 art history, Level 2 English and Scholarship drama and English.
Mt Albert Grammar student Hannah Brider was one of more than 40,000 students who sat the Level 2 English exam yesterday afternoon.
The 16-year-old said she was disappointed a question she had studied hard for did not appear in the three essay questions.
Instead she focused on doing the two she had prepared for well.
She now hopes that will be enough for a pass mark but has peace of mind in knowing that she has already passed the subject, having gained 67 credits this year despite needing only 60.
Hannah said she was happy English was now out of the way.
"I'm happy that it's over and I don't have another exam until Wednesday, which means I get to sleep in."
There are no exams today so all students have an opportunity to continue studying for their next subjects.
Scholarship statistics and modelling and science are being held tomorrow afternoon.
Six different subjects are scheduled for Monday.
