Former Kiwi and Warriors league player Henry Aau Fa'afili, 29, was today convicted for driving with nearly three times over the alcohol limit.
Fa'afili was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for 12 months when he appeared in Manukau District Court.
Judge John Hole said Fa'afili's breath alcohol level was 1113mg per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mg.
Defence lawyer Josefina Fuimaono-Sapolu told the court Fa'afili was highly remorseful and apologetic.
She said the conviction would be punitive based on his high profile and asked the judge to apply the minimum six months disqualification.
Judge Hole acknowledged Fa'afili's early guilty plea but said he could not give a lower disqualification period due to the high alcohol reading.
Fa'afili was stopped in Manukau on September 6.
He made his debut for the Warriors in 2000 and currently plays rugby union for Leeds Carnegie, in England.
