A former Taranaki rugby representative who broke his fiancee's jaw during an argument has been remanded for sentence in October.
Mark Jay Stewart, 27, pleaded guilty in New Plymouth District Court yesterday to injuring with intent, which carries a five-year maximum penalty.
Stewart had been at former Taranaki captain and Hurricanes player Paul Tito's wedding reception on May 31 with his then-fiance, Katherine Alex Lepper when the attack happened, the Taranaki Daily News reported today.
Miss Lepper suffered a broken jaw, a black eye, bruising to her cheek and lips, as well as whiplash.
Judge Stanley Thorburn remanded Stewart, who has played 36 games for Taranaki, including 11 appearances last year, on continued bail for sentence on October 15.
