KEY POINTS:
The former chief executive of Rowing New Zealand was today fined $10,000 in Tauranga District Court on two of nine fraud charges he had admitted.
Craig James Ross, 52, was fined $5000 on each of two charges and was convicted and discharged without penalty on the remaining seven counts.
The court had earlier been told that Rowing NZ received nearly $370,000 as a result of the offending, but Ross made no personal gain.
He told police he was under pressure to raise funds for both Rowing NZ and the 2010 world championships to be held in New Zealand.
Nine applications to four different funding agencies between November 2004 and March 2007 to help Rowing NZ pay for travel, apparel, boats and oars contained 34 false documents which amounted to forgeries.
