KEY POINTS:
Ex-New Zealand First MP and High Commissioner to the Cook Islands Brian Donnelly has passed away.
A family member says he died at midday after a short illness.
At the beginning of the month Mr Donnelly was made a Companion of the Queen's Service Order.
That recognised his public service as an MP, as well as his efforts in education, youth and Pacific Island affairs.
