KEY POINTS:
A second major landslide has forced the evacuation of more homes in Manukau City in the past 24 hours one of them understood to belong to former Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis.
Manukau City Council said five houses, threatened by a slip in Bucklands Beach, were evacuated yesterday.
Land subsidence at Clovelly Road, overlooking the sea, meant some houses and a walkway were cordoned off because of safety concerns.
One house was damaged and may possibly have to be demolished and the other properties were evacuated as a precaution.
Engineers will today assess the extent and cause of the slip.
Meanwhile the council is continuing to monitor a massive landslip in Kawakawa Bay that led to six properties being evacuated last week.
The slip, the size of a shopping mall, also forced the closure of the main access road into the bay.
About 1500 people in the area had to take an alternative route to get into Auckland city, adding 90 minutes to the journey.
The council is now organising free ferry and bus services for residents.
The council said yesterday the slip was still moving and could come down at any time.
