A former volunteer firefighter was found guilty yesterday of attempting to burn down the Big Save Furniture store in Paraparaumu in December 2000.
Dion Lance McKenzie, 33, a manager, set fire to a bin next to the building, the Wellington District Court was told.
After the verdict it was revealed that McKenzie, a former Petone volunteer firefighter, was sentenced to three years' jail in 1998 after he admitted lighting 10 fires, including one that damaged the station where he worked.
McKenzie will be sentenced on November 16.
