KEY POINTS:
The former head of Surf Life Saving Taranaki has been charged with stealing nearly $200,000 from the association.
Alison Douglas was remanded on bail following an appearance in New Plymouth District Court yesterday, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
She was charged with theft, totalling $198,764, but Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward, of the New Plymouth CIB, said further charges were pending.
Douglas was scheduled to reappear on February 12.
The arrest comes more than six months after the money was first discovered missing from the surf club, leaving local members stunned and causing a number of resignations.
Douglas, a life member of the club who had worked for the organisation for about 12 years, was suspended and later resigned following the allegations.
