A former All Black was given interim name suppression when he appeared briefly in Wellington District Court today on assault and drug charges.
Judge Bruce Davidson remanded the 45-year-old on bail without plea for three weeks.
He was told the accused was seeking a medical report and intended to ask for police diversion.
"There is sufficient medical opinion before me at the moment to justify interim name suppression,'' the judge said
The man has been charged with assault on a female, common assault, resisting police, and possessing cannabis and drug utensils.
