The mother of a family accused of terrorising their neighbours in an Auckland suburban street says she has been "crucified by the media".
Sharon Salt, a beneficiary with nine boys and a girl, told the Herald at her Owairaka home on Range View Rd that the constant media focus on her family had been "too much".
"We've been through a lot of stress, we are all very tired, and the media are really the last people I want to speak with," said Ms Salt, referring questions to her lawyer, John Foliaki.
The Housing NZ tenants were yesterday granted a rehearing with the Tenancy Tribunal at the Auckland District Court next Friday after Mr Foliaki said Ms Salt had been too ill to attend the original hearing last week.
The tribunal ordered the family to vacate the house on Range View Rd after hearing complaints made against family members of drunkenness, intimidation, violence and theft.
But Mr Foliaki said he had collected affidavits from other people living on the street which testified to the family's good character.
