A rural area of South Auckland has been evacuated because of a gas main fracture.
A Vector Gas spokesman said workers at a construction site on Oakland Rd had cut through a plastic gas pipe.
Vector was still looking for the valve in order to turn off the gas. It could still be two hours before the pipe was repaired and the gas turned back on, he said.
Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman Megan Ruru said the leak was on the corner of Hingaia and Oakland Rds in Karaka.
It happened just past 12pm, but took nearly an hour before Vector arrived at the scene.
