KEY POINTS:
The Fire Service is advising the public to avoid the area around Clark Street and Totara Avenue in New Lynn, Auckland due to a major gas leak outside Burger King.
A 300mm gas main has been ruptured by a pile driver and more than 20 firefighters and the Fire Service's Hazardous Materials unit is on scene.
Evacuations are currently being carried out in the immediate area and down-wind of the gas leak, the Fire Service said.
All trains have been stopped both ways on the Auckland Line.
Children are being kept inside at the New Lynn School.
