After four years living across the Tasman, North Shore resident Pamela Wong is thrilled to be back - and to find her favourite Malaysian dishes are available so close to home.
The 33-year-old lawyer, who migrated from Malaysia to New Zealand with her family as a child, is surprised at how much Takapuna has changed in such a short space of time.
"There is definitely a lot more variety of ethnic food and, of course, I'm happy that I can get my nasi lemak, roti and satay so close to home now," said Ms Wong, who works at Vinci Lawyers.
"I'm thrilled with the change and I think it shows that Auckland is truly a cosmopolitan metropolis now."
Mamak Malaysian Restaurant on Huron St is one of several ethnic food outlets and businesses that have opened since 2010, the year Ms Wong left for Sydney. Others include Fortune Fountain (serving Chinese yum cha), Josh Emett's Malaysian-inspired Madam Woo and El Humero, a Colombian restaurant.
