A prisoner who fled through an unlocked door at Manukau District Court in South Auckland remained on the run today.
Jason Pope, 33, was waiting to be called before the court on fraud charges when he walked through an insecure door about 5pm on Tuesday.
An internal investigation is being held into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
Police have appealed to the public for help in recapturing Pope described as a caucasian, 1.77m tall, of medium-to-thin build with short brown hair and heavily tattooed lower arms.
He wore a black short sleeve t-shirt with the word "Air" on the front, black or dark coloured pants and white sneakers, and was carrying a black long-sleeved top.
