KEY POINTS:
WELLINGTON - A prisoner who escaped from a police van north of Wellington yesterday by forcing open a door is still on the loose today.
Zharn Craig Burns, 24, escaped at the Paremata roundabout, north of Wellington, about 5pm, while the van was en route to Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt from Porirua Ditrict Court.
Police were alerted to the escape by a member of the public.
Police said today there had been no reported sightings of him since.
Burns is described as a Caucasian, with a solid build, 185cm tall, with blond hair tied in a pony tail.
He was wearing blue jeans, a grey sweat shirt and carrying a black jacket.
Burns is from the Kapiti area and police say he should not be approached.
