Dunedin police have recaptured an escaped prisoner after cornering him in a Hell Pizza kitchen in the city on Saturday.
Peter John Carr, 42, escaped from custody at Dunedin District Court on Thursday and the public was warned he was dangerous and should not be approached.
Senior Sergeant Ed Baker, of Dunedin, told the Otago Daily Times a member of the public tipped them off that Carr was in The Warehouse in Hillside Rd at lunchtime on Saturday.
The building was surrounded to await the arrival of the armed offenders squad.
However, Carr spotted police when he tried to leave the store and ran through a rear exit.
He was chased by into Hell's Pizza, where he was cornered in the kitchen, pepper-sprayed and arrested.
He was charged with escaping custody.
