Police say they were searching for a car involved in a crash near Queenstown this morning because of complaints about erratic driving.
A Ford Falcon, carrying three people, hit a motorbike, injuring two North Island people, on State Highway 6 on the Devils Staircase, about 14km south of Frankton.
Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the northbound car was allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road. The motorbike went under the car, which hit a grass verge and came to rest on its roof.
"Police had been looking for the driver because of driving behaviour - a member of the public had reported speed and erratic driving."
Sgt Watt said two motorbikes were pulling out of a lay-by on the highway when the riders allegedly noticed the approaching car had crossed the centreline.
