New Zealand's High Commissioner to Fiji, Tia Barrett, will return to Suva this week.
And Foreign Minister Phil Goff has suggested moves that Fiji might make for sanctions to be relaxed.
"When we see commitments of good faith, then we can respond accordingly."
Mr Goff suggested cutting the three-year timetable for one-person, one-vote elections, and Indian representation in the interim Government.
He said that following the court appearance of coup leader George Speight on treason charges, the Government had decided Mr Barrett should return to Suva. He was recalled to Wellington a month ago.
