A enthralling contest is expected when Sports Arena Carterton and St Matthew's Collegiate meet in a Netball Wairarapa premier one match at the Colombo road courts tomorrow.
Both teams have started the season promisingly enough, St Matthews bouncing back from a hefty defeat at the hands of Kuranui to edge out Gladstone All Blacks last weekend and Sports Arena Carterton drawing with Gladstone All Blacks and then losing to Kuranui College by just seven goals.
It is interesting to note that defender Jayne Kersten has been a mainstay of the St Matthew's line-up in both their games to date while Sports Arena Carterton have benefitted immensely from the accuracy of shooter Nelda Day.
That being the case the result of this match could well hinge on who gets the better of their individual clash
The other premier one game at Colombo Road tomorrow sees the formidable Harcourts side taking on Wairarapa College A and while the fitness of the students will aid their cause the greater skill of Harcourts should guarantee them another big win.
The southern Wairarapa netball fraternity should be at the Genesis Recreation Centre in their droves on Monday night when Kuranui College takes on Salute Greytown.
Kuranui have made a flying start to the season, toppling St Matthew's Collegiate first time up and then coming from behind to beat Sports Arena Carterton last weekend.Salute Greytown, on the other hand, had to endure a 54-point thumping from Harcourts before bouncing back with a six goal victory over Wairarapa College.
On the basis of those results Kuranui College will obviously be a warm favourite to make it three wins on end but they will need to be wary of a Greytown side who will be looking to Natasha Robinson and Sue Button to provide a reliable service to shooters Dawn Bregman and Rachael Pickering. Do that and an upset can't be discounted.
Gladstone All Blacks should chalk up their first win of the season when they play Carterton Red in the second premier one game to be played at the Genesis Recreation Centre on Monday night. Gladstone All Blacks look to have the edge in most departments and should turn that into a comfortable victory.
Enthralling game in store tomorrow
