Engineers were yesterday inspecting Wellington properties threatened by landslips.
A flat was knocked off its foundations and a property in Kilbirnie was evacuated.
A slip also derailed a commuter train on the Johnsonville line. After overhead power lines were shut off, passengers were evacuated.
The Fire Service was also called to pump out several houses affected by floodwaters, as overloaded stormwater drains caused sewerage to overflow.
Met Service said in the seven hours from 8am to 3pm Saturday 70 to 90mm of rain fell on parts of the region.
