KEY POINTS:
Two people who left their jobs without giving notice have been ordered to pay their employer four weeks' wages.
Lane Group Ltd, which owns Regent Night 'n' Day food store in Dunedin, sought reparation through the Employment Relations Authority for the four weeks' notice the employees had been contracted to give.
Hayden Parsons and Tabatha Burrow started working at the store last year, employed as store persons.
Neither defended the case against them.
The authority ordered Mr Parsons to pay Lane Group $1920 in lieu of giving the four weeks' notice, $73 for an unreturned uniform and a $70 filing fee.
Ms Burrow was ordered to pay $1800 in lieu of notice, $163 for an unreturned uniform, $43 for an unpaid shop account and a $70 filing fee.
The authority found it was outlined in the terms both had agreed to that they were required to give four weeks' notice or pay that amount.
It said it was difficult to make any conclusion on the positions of Ms Burrow and Mr Parsons because of their absence, but the authority was satisfied they had both left their employment without giving the required notice and fell within the provisions of the terms they had agreed to.
