Bob Mcdonald,Games bowler.
Bowlers are mourning the death of one of the New Zealand sport's most outstanding exponents, Bob McDonald. McDonald played in three Commonwealth Games in 1962, 1970 and 1974, winning gold, silver and bronze medals, all in pairs. His national title count was just two - pairs in 1962 and fours in 1973 - reflecting his choice of attending the championships with fellow-club players, instead of playing in composite teams. Bowls New Zealand chief executive Kerry Clark said: "Bob played in the same era as people like David Bryant, and was held in the highest regard by fellow bowlers from around the globe." Later McDonald was a stalwart of the Kittyhawks, a group of bowlers who raised funds for the Halberg Trust.
