KEY POINTS:
Convicted murderer and rapist Liam Reid will appeal his sentence.
The 36-year-old was in December sentenced to preventive detention, with a minimum non-parole period of 26 years for the murder and rape of Emma Agnew and the attempted murder and rape of a Dunedin woman.
Reid's lawyer David Bunce has confirmed Reid will appeal the sentence.
