7.36am: Philip Bartle, Hilary and Linda Nicholl and Richard Potter are all safe and well and home in West London. Philip could get a train home, and Richard borrowed a bicycle. We've also heard that Jenny Leeming, Claire Falkner and Madeleine Collinge are fine. Love to all,
- Hilary, Philip (and toddler Alex)
7.34am: I was trapped underground on the metropolitan line just before Farringdon Station for almost an hour. There was mass confusion by all once we were evacuated. People were fighting to get in the back doors of buses as overloaded drivers were refusing to open the front doors. As I made my way further down the road, snipits of news echoed from the news bulletins screening in the pubs. The magnitude of what was happening sunk in when I received a frantic call from Zane not to get on the bus as there were reports of explosions on buses as well. There were mad dashes for black cabs who refused to stop and a surge of disorientated people people purchasing A-Z maps (myself included). Others just checked into the nearest hotel. I had no choice but to make the 6 hour journey home by foot...We are both home safe and sound...All our love xxx

Am currently enjoying a glass of fine NZ red wine to help take my mind off today!

5.05am: Hello to all my friends and family. I am safe and well, although a little tired after a long walk home. Yes I was on the same train routes that were bombed and could have been on one of the trains however I went to work early today. The British people are wonderful, strong and resilient. There were many of us making a long walk home and no one complained or grumbled, even when it was raining. People were helping the more vulnerable by giving them their jackets, paying for taxis etc. It just cements my opinion that the British are some of the best people out there. My best wishes to all those at home and my heart felt sympathy to the victims and their families on this terrible day. Mike CJ (expat NZ in London).

Most people now embarking on the mission journey home by foot or car. Take care all.
- Melissa Dobson

We feel so hopeless being so far away and we are so sorry that you have experienced such unwarranted violence in the wonderful city of London which you now call home. We feel so blessed and priviledged that somehow you survived the terror in spite of living and working in the city centre. But how we wish we could be there to hold you in our arms and reassure you that it will be OK! We, at home, are constantly thinking of you all and praying for you as you make your way home from work tonight. Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts go out to the families of those who have been killed or hurt in this senseless violence. Never have we felt so far away from you. 3.20am: I'm in London at the moment. I'm stuck at work as most of the transport systems have gone down. My mobile number isn't sending a message through to the guys at home so. I'll have to wait til I get home so that they know I'm alright. I got into work first thing this morning and we heard there had been an explosion at Liverpool Street. The London Underground System is not reliable especially this morning as there had been delays on the northern line for me getting to worked. And we were squashed inside the carriage like sardines. Which can be a common event in London. So at first I didn't think this a was a huge thing as I had heard 2 carriages had crashed into each other. Then the stories seemed to get worse and with the mobiles network crashing it was very concerning. I was very worried as my British Boyfriend works in the building next door to Liverpool Street station. He is fine. Thank goodness. But he had heard there had been an explosion at Kings Cross. As I am temping at a new job he did not know my new phone number and he knew I was going to pass through Kings Cross. Thank god for Hotmail at work. My Boyfriends brother could not get hold of his girlfriend until about 1pm and was in absolute tears. One of the ladies at work says it reminded her of when the IRA used to have bombthreats. Now that everyone has been in touch with their loved ones and knows everything is ok there has been a much lighter mood. Some offices have been evacuated at this point we are told to stay inside. So there's the odd joke flying around about how we must have pissed off the french about winning the bid for 2012 Olympics.
- Caroline Carson
3.13am: Just to let you know that Siobhan is fine. She left Old Street earlier in the week to stay with friends in Kingston. Have spoken to her a few times today and she is on her way to Dublin now. Will stay in Ireland with Davy and I for the weekend.

2.55am: Shari and I are a-ok. After 6 years here I have the same ironic & fatalistic view on sudden death as a born Londoner but I am quite pleased to have the option to get out of here and back to Helenclarkengrad. The only thing that really keeps us here is the money, cheap flights and lower income tax - take note NZ government.
- Sam Waymouth

2.30am: Had a boozy work function last night and was given the morning off work to recover. If I was on my usual schedule I would have been smack bang in the middle of it all! - Terry Frisby
2.30am: Been getting all your texts, hope mine have been getting through. If not, it would seem that everyone is sweet.
- Simon Porter
2.29am: I was walking briskly along Euston Road at 9:50 am this morning running late for a court hearing. By this stage 100s of people had already been cleared out of the tube network and the streets were packed with people trying to work out how they were going to get were headed. At this stage I had no idea what was afoot in London. Just as I passed Euston station I heard an almighty BANG! which stopped everyone dead in their tracks. Many were clearly upset by the explosion but I merely passed it off as a controlled detonation by the bomb disposal experts. I arrived at court 10 mins later to find my hearing was actually tomorrow! Making my way back to the Kings Cross area where Im working (for London Borough of Camden), I found even more people on the street - all heading towards me - away from Euston / Kings Cross. Finding my way cordoned off I ascertained in general terms what had happened, and I managed to finally get to a council office and to reunite with my colleagues. London is a city with some experience of bombings and such like behaviour. As a kiwi who has lived in London for three years I do not share that historical experience. In many ways my feelings are more akin to turning on the TV on the morning of Sept 10, 2001 and seeing the events of 7/11 unfold - and thats notwithstanding the fact that I was within half a mile of one of today's blasts. Returning to work, outrage, grief and confusion were the flavour of the day. Speculation and accusions were rife with comments such as "back in the old days the IRA would have at least given warning", "the IRA would never have done something as terrible as this" and so on. Perhaps it is natural to reevaluate an old enemy when so dramatically confronted by a new one. To me a terrorist is a terrorist whatever their colour, creed or religion. Thankfully the few anti-Arab and anti-muslim comments I heard were not the mainstay of conversations. I suspect that will come later once the tabloids have had time to print their inflamatory headlines. With the Town Hall evacuated and access restricted by police and wardens rumours were rife with such authoritative statements from staff members as "although the police won't confirm it, so far 135 dead", "the Town Hall is going to be used as a temporary morgue for all the dead people at Kings Cross", and so on. At about 2:00pm we were told we could return to the Town Hall to collect our bags and go home. As I made my way home I noticed Londoners were beginning to fill up all the pubs and drinking establishments - consoling themselves in the time honoured british tradition. This was repeated on the streets with a larger than usual number of people drinking in public - I even saw a couple of young businessmen in suits sitting on a pavement seat passing a bottle of something cheerful back and forwards between them. Who can can begrudge these people that little solace? As a result it all has felt rather surreal to me today. The horror of people trapped - possibly injured - in underground lines is difficult to comprehend. As I write this my girlfriend Pippa has text messaged me to say she is travelling home (to Islington) from West London via bus and foot. I can only hope there will be no further blasts and that the number of those injured and killed is minimal. Mum and Dad, Russ and Dawn, Pip and I are fine. We won't cal you whilst you are sleeping, but we will call you later. All our love.
- Ralph Coulter (and Pip)

I know most of you will be praying for us so thank you all so much in advance. It's pretty scary here and most of the doctors where I work at University College Hospitals Trust in the West End have had to go to A & E to work (they're rheumatologists). I went out at lunchtime and the usually overcrowded streets are nearly empty and people are scuttling around like frightened rabbits - really weird.
