Emery appointed deputy commissioner of Solomons police

A senior New Zealand police officer has been appointed as a deputy commissioner of the Solomon Islands police force as part of efforts to maintain law and order in the once strife-torn South Pacific nation.

Deputy Commissioner Graham Emery, whose appointment is for two years, started work yesterday.
