A walking party of 19 is at the centre of a land rescue attempt from emergency services unfolding near Te Puke this morning.
Police, ambulance and firefighters are at the scene where it is believed a person has been injured while on a trek toward a Otanewainuku walking track, a police spokesman told the Bay of Plenty Times.
It is understood a rescue helicopter is on standby but it was not yet known how seriously the person was hurt.
Emergency services are being called to an incident in rural Te Puke at 8.34am.
A fire service northern communications spokeswoman said the volunteer Te Puke fire brigade was called to assist ambulance staff at a quarry for a medical matter.
