Guinea pigs originated in South America but these short-haired little animals were unceremoniously abandoned outside the gates of the SPCA's Mangere village on November 3.
The pair were originally four, but two have already found homes. Perhaps because they were found in a box, these two are reluctant to leave their safe cage, but this is an advantage for these animals, who make good pets for children.
"Rabbits and guinea pigs really suit kids. They teach them the responsibilities of pet ownership," says SPCA general manager Jane Thompson.
Their village numbers are 85530 and 85531.
