Sports and television celebrity Marc Ellis admits he stripped down to his underwear in a corporate box at the end of the troublesome one-day international at Eden Park on Saturday.
However, the 34-year-old says it is "preposterous" to suggest he was one of the cricket fans on the verge of being kicked out of the ground for bad behaviour.
Police arrested 10 people at the New Zealand versus Australia match. A further 40 fans were evicted and many others were warned as behaviour disintegrated during the evening. Objects were thrown at the Australian players and five people invaded the pitch, including one streaker.
"Look, we had a great day at the cricket. We had a lot of fun, and I think somebody's using their imagination.
"I was in a mate's box - but there's no way we got naked. At all. We got down to our underpants."
The high-jinks had occurred after the cricket had finished, he said, and there had been no trouble between himself and security during or after the game.
"Naturally we were fairly excited [about life in general]."
Ellis has had a turbulent year, including a conviction for possessing the class B recreational drug Ecstasy.
He resigned from the board of the fruit juice company he helped to establish, Charlie's.
Ellis was then voted most popular male television personality at last month's Qantas Media Awards, and was nominated to gain his seat back on the Charlie's board. He withdrew, citing increasing television commitments.
On the TV show Sports Cafe, Ellis encouraged people to streak on what the show adopted as "national nude day".
