Manukau City mayor Sir Barry Curtis is confident the Ellerslie Flower Show will go on.
Although a consortium of event managers has bought the show, there are still concerns that it might not happen this year.
Sir Barry is hopeful, however, saying while he can't promise anything, the successful consortium has indicated to him that they will shift heaven and earth to make sure there is a show.
Sir Barry says Manukau has confirmed a $100,000 contribution to this year's event.
He says the viability of the show will depend on the willingness of other organisations and contributors to get involved.
The show's chief executive Cath Handley says the new owners are committed to staging the event in Auckland and for it to retain its charitable element.
