Eleven people have been injured - five seriously - in a horror three-car smash in west Auckland this evening, authorities say.
St John Ambulance spokesman Robbie Walker said two children were among the seriously injured and had been taken by ambulance to Starship Hospital.
A seriously injured adult was flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Auckland City Hospital.
The remaining eight injured adults, which included four with moderate injuries and two with minor injuries, were taken to the same hospital by ambulance.
Inspector Shawn Rutene, of Auckland, said a minivan involved in the 6.15pm crash on State Highway 16, near Waimauku, had plunged 20 metres down a bank.
