Electricity prices look set to climb next year.
The Domestic Energy Users' Network says the wholesale price for electricity increased from 8.5 cents per kilowatt hour on December 1 to 23 cents per kilowatt hour two days ago.
A kilowatt hour is equivalent to having a one bar heater on for an hour.
Domestic Energy Users' Network spokeswoman, Molly Melhuish, says some of that will end up as consumer price hikes next year but she says it will take quite a bit more analysis to work out exactly how much.
